Small apartment balcony filled with container vegetables: potted cherry tomatoes, a railing windowbox of salad greens, and hanging pocket herb planters

Big Crops in Small Spaces

One plant. One pot. One harvest. That’s the whole method, and it works in any space that gets a little sun.

Got a balcony, a windowsill, or a patch of railing that gets a few hours of sun? That’s enough. Grow Pocket Harvest is a beginner’s guide to growing real, edible vegetables — cherry tomatoes, salad greens, herbs, and more — in pots, tubs, and hanging pockets. No yard required, no experience assumed, no complicated setups.

Everything here is built around the constraints of small-space growing: container size, drainage, sun hours, and how often you’ll actually need to water. If you’ve ever killed a basil plant from a grocery store, you’re exactly who this site is for.

From the Test Garden

Our own test pots live in the Pocket Harvest Test Garden: dated photos and notes on what we sowed, what grew and what didn’t. We grow in the Southern Hemisphere, where the seasons are opposite to yours. So while you head into fall and winter, our pots are in spring and summer, and you can watch how a crop behaves before your own season comes round.
