Privacy Policy

Who we are

Grow Pocket Harvest (growpocketharvest.com) is a container-gardening website written for beginners growing vegetables and herbs in small spaces — balconies, windowsills, and rented apartments. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions after reading it, our Contact page is the fastest way to reach us.

Analytics: how we measure site traffic

We use Google Analytics (via Google Site Kit) to understand which pages and guides are useful — things like how many people visit, which posts are read, and roughly where visitors are located. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technology to collect this information, which is processed by Google in accordance with its own privacy policy. The data we see is aggregated and does not identify you personally. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Cookies and your choices

We use a small number of cookies. Strictly necessary cookies (for example, one that remembers your cookie choice, and session cookies used by our contact form and caching plugin) are always on, because the site can’t work properly without them. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) help us see which guides are useful. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, analytics cookies stay off unless you click Accept in the cookie banner. Elsewhere, they are on when you arrive and you can turn them off by clicking Deny. If you deny, the analytics cookies are removed; Google may still receive a basic, cookie-free signal that a page was viewed, which isn’t linked to you. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site’s cookies in your browser, which brings the banner back. Your choice doesn’t affect your ability to read anything on the site.

Newsletter and email list (MailerLite)

If you sign up for our free planting calendar or newsletter, we collect the email address (and, where a form asks for it, first name) you provide. This information is stored with our email service provider, MailerLite, and is used only to send you the resource you requested, occasional emails about new guides, and — if you subscribe to it — our seasonal gardening newsletter. We do not sell, rent, or trade your email address to anyone. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time; unsubscribing removes you from future sends but does not delete historical delivery records MailerLite retains for deliverability purposes. See MailerLite’s privacy policy for how they process data on our behalf.

Contact form

When you use the form on our Contact page, we collect the name, email address, and message you submit. We use this information only to respond to your question or feedback, and we keep the message on file for as long as needed to handle any follow-up. We do not add contact-form submissions to our newsletter list unless you separately sign up for it.

Affiliate links and the Amazon Associates Program

Grow Pocket Harvest is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. Some links in our posts and on our Recommended Gear page are affiliate links: if you click through and make a qualifying purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend products we’d genuinely suggest to a beginner grower, and pricing/availability is set by Amazon, not us. Amazon may use its own cookies to track that a purchase came from our link; we do not receive any personal information about you or your order beyond the fact that a sale occurred. Full details are on our Affiliate Disclosure page.

Advertising and Google ads

This site may show ads from Google AdSense to help cover the cost of running it. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites.

Google’s use of advertising cookies lets Google and its partners show you ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

You can turn off personalized advertising in Google’s My Ad Center. You can also opt out of some other third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. We don’t show ads yet. If we add them, we’ll update this section, and you’ll be able to turn off advertising cookies using the cookie banner.

Comments

When you leave a comment on a post, we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check whether you are using it; Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. After approval, your comment and profile picture are visible to the public alongside your comment.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (for example, images or videos from other sites). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly, and that site may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

Who we share data with

We don’t sell your personal information. The service providers who process data on our behalf — Google (Analytics), MailerLite (email), and our web host — only use it to provide the service we’ve engaged them for, under their own privacy and security terms. Amazon Associates tracking is described above.

How long we retain your data

Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically. Contact-form messages and newsletter subscriber records are kept for as long as your subscription or correspondence is active, or until you ask us to delete them. Analytics data is retained by Google according to the retention settings on our Google Analytics property.

Your rights over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request an export of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to erase it (excluding data we’re required to keep for administrative, legal, or security reasons). To make a request, get in touch via our Contact page. If you subscribed to our newsletter, you can also unsubscribe directly using the link in any email you receive from us.

Where your data is sent

Visitor data (for example, from comments or the contact form) may be processed and stored outside your own country, including in the United States, by the service providers named above.
